Growing up in the 80’s, I was raised with an appreciation of great music. My parents definitely introduced me to the Beatles early in my youth and they are a group I have always loved. My favorites records were definitely Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and Abbey Road. However, I was too young to actually ever see them in concert. Which, of course, is a shame, but what can you do?
Back in 2011, I was invited to come see a Broadway show called RAIN. At the time, I really had no idea what it was or what it was about. I think, looking back on it, I might have thought it was a jukebox musical that would maybe be a show with some songs from the Beatles featured in it. I was mistaken! What it turned out to be felt the closest I think I could ever get to seeing the Beatles live in concert for myself.
The show started and four guys were on stage singing and playing instruments as if they were the Beatles themselves. I have to tell you, I had to do a double take. They looked and sounded just like them! Songs, eras, and costumes would change and literally transport you from album to album throughout BeatleMania. Everyone at that show was on their feet dancing and singing and having the most wonderful time. There were people of all ages there, people that actually got to see the Beatles in person and little children. It was a fantastic show and I have always wanted to go back and see it again. It was easily one of my top favorite shows I saw on Broadway!
You can imagine how excited I was when I found out that RAIN: A Tribute to the Beatles was making an appearance in Salt Lake City. It looks as if the show has been revamped and I can’t wait to go back. You will not want to miss the opportunity to see it for yourself at the Eccles Theater on July 26th and 27th, so grab your tickets while you still can!
