I am a die hard Harry Potter fanatic. If you’ve followed my site for any amount of time, you’d be able to figure that out from all the fun Harry Potter destinations I’ve been to here in the United States and in London. I even made my own cupboard under the stairs. I’ve also been lucky enough to meet Daniel Radcliffe himself (absolutely amazing guy!). Anything to do with Harry Potter our family loves to participate in. Last year, for the first time, I got to experience Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 in Concert with the Utah Symphony. Ever since then, I have eagerly been awaiting the conclusion of the movie.

Obviously, I’ve seen the movie. Probably hundreds of times. I love it. It’s one of my very favorites. But getting the chance to see it on the big screen with a world-class orchestra playing the score was something I couldn’t pass up.

Last night, I was finally able to do that, joined with a couple thousand other Harry Potter fanatics. Fans dressed up in house colors, uniforms, and costumes and it was really fun to be in Abravanel Hall together as we watched and listened to the epic ending of the franchise. When we arrived at Abravanel Hall, we were greeted by Hagrid and other Harry Potter characters in costume. Great photo ops! There were lots of activities in the lobby beforehand, too, including a fun Harry Potter themed trivia and games with the chance to win prizes and a costume contest–so be sure to dress up! There were also fun treats like pumpkin juice and Bertie’s Botts Every Flavored Beans and other Wizarding World merchandise for sale.

When we got seated, we were told that this was the 2117th performance of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 in Concert and it had been performed in over 300 cities and 48 countries. It’s fun to think there are so many Harry Potter fans that have come together to enjoy the movie in this way.

The lights went down and the music began. I’ve always thought the very beginning of the movie has such a haunting score–one that feels so hopeless and dark. To hear it live was beyond incredible.

I can not explain to you what a different movie watching experience it is to attend the Films in Concert series. The music is some of my favorite. It may be the most intense and emotive of all the Harry Potter films and to hear it live takes you to a different realm. There were moments where I was actually moved to tears because I could just feel it all so well. It was absolutely incredible! To hear it played live by the Utah Symphony elevated the movie so much more. I loved feeling the heartaches and triumphs through the score, as did the entire audience, as was evident with the reactions to the music. Thunderous applause erupted and all were sad it was over, but thrilled that we had gotten to experience it in such a way.

If you love the movies, if you like the movies, or just want to see the movie, this is an experience unlike any other and one I highly recommend to you. Fans of all ages attended and loved it. If you didn’t get the chance to see it last night, don’t fret–you still have two more chances, if you hurry. There are performances scheduled for this evening, Friday, October 27th at 7pm and tomorrow, Saturday, October 28th at 1pm. Don’t miss your chance to see it live, you will love it.
