Last night, we had the pleasure of going to NJPAC to see The Illusionists’ Magic of the Holidays performance in Newark, New Jersey.

I have never seen a show like this one before! We arrived at the theatre, which is always a wonderful venue to see a show, and immediately noticed that the performers were out and about with the audience. Some were just talking to little kids and adults and others were encouraging audience members to write down commands in an envelope to be used later in the show. The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement and the unknown.

When the show began, we were introduced to the Illusionists, a group of five performers: The Mentalists, The Showman, The Inventor, The Manipulator, and The Unforgettable. This is a rotating cast of magicians that appear at shows, but they are seasoned performers that will actually blow your mind.

From the moment they took the stage, the audience was enthralled. Tricks and illusions were in full force, leaving one scratching their head and wondering how they could be so.

Audience participation is in abundance in this show, making it so that there is no way to know what will happen at any bit of the performance. We watched as the most random spectator was selected, with no possible way to have been picked out before, and the impossible became possible. While I loved each of the performers, the standout performance, for me, was that of The Mentalist, Chris Cox. This British magician had us all completely perplexed as he began reading people’s minds over and over before, without any knowledge of the volunteers. One by one, each person selected to work with him was astonished at his accuracy. I have no idea how he did what he did, but I will tell you, it was beyond impressive. We were all left completely amazed.

I thoroughly enjoyed each and every segment of the performance, and it was clear everyone in that Newark audience did, as well. I’ve never heard such excitement from the crowd in any show I’ve ever gone to. Young and old alike absolutely loved the show!

While you have missed the opportunity to see the show in New Jersey, their Illusionists Magic of the Holiday Tour continues with stops all over the country.

You won’t want to miss the chance to see them live, you’ve never seen anything like this before!

We so enjoyed our time at NJPAC, once again, and highly recommend taking a look at their 2023-2024 Season for other stand out performances. Tickets to such shows make amazing gifts for the holidays and create memorable experiences you can share with your loved ones.
