We had a fabulous time getting to see the Utah Symphony for their Here Comes Santa Claus show this weekend. Upon arrival, we were greeted by cute elves who had little ornaments for all the children to decorate before the show started. It was a good way to keep the little ones entertained before finding our seats.

The music started with some favorites such as “What’s This” from The Nightmare Before Christmas and “Where Are You Christmas?” from The Grinch who Stole Christmas. After the opening number you get to meet the cutest Elf named Noelle. She is one of Santa’s elves who fills the show with humor. After meeting Noelle, we listened to the symphony perform “Charlie Brown’s Christmas”. Then we all were so excited when Santa came out! Santa had an idea he loved the music that the orchestra played so much that he wanted to take it with him everywhere he goes so he decided that he would like to learn to play an instrument. He goes on to join the orchestra in the playing of the “Nutcracker.” He tried the flute, trumpet, violin, and guitar, but none of them were Santa’s instruments. Next, Santa tried the bells as the orchestra played “Silver Bells” he was the best at the bells, but still it wasn’t quite right. Next, Santa read the story “The Night Before Christmas” accompanied by the orchestra and it was beautiful and a treat to be read to by the Big Man himself. The conductor had a great idea of having Santa conduct the orchestra and he did a fantastic job leading them in “Sleigh Ride ”.

After all this, Santa and Noelle decided you can take music anywhere with you, even if you don’t play an instrument. We all joined in singing classic Christmas hymns. The show was so enjoyable and the perfect way to introduce kids to the symphony. They were entertained the whole time. The whole show was a festive experience to add to your holiday season.

We loved our time with Santa at the Utah Symphony and highly recommend doing it yourself, if the opportunity arises again. For information about other upcoming Christmas events and other performances for the 2023-2024 season, please visit them online.
