The New Jersey Performing Arts Center hosted one of Broadway’s most beloved performers this evening, an artist that needs no introduction to fans of stage and screen, Kristen Chenoweth

Awards, albums, a solo night with the Metropolitan opera, and shows such as Steel Pier, Epic Proportions, The Apple Tree. You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Wicked, Promises Promises, Pushing Daisies, RV, and recently, Schmigadoon are just a sampling of her professional portfolio.

All of the things she is known for—her fantastically-controlled emotive soprano voice, perky personality, comedic timing, quirky roles, and positive outlook—shone through in tonight’s performance.

The program included many short stories and anecdotes that took the audience through a celebration of songs about women for national women’s day. The other parts of the show played as a love letter to musical theater from deep cuts to traditional standards.

The highlight of the show was a surprise visit from Stephen Schwartz to premier a new broadway show based on the Queen of Versailles. The song about champagne wishes and caviar dreams showcased both artists’ mastery of the genre and brought the audience to their feet.

The greatest artists attract and surround themselves with others who elevate their performance and skill. The band (including her husband Josh Bryant on guitar and Mary Mitchell on piano) and backup singers (Nikki and Diana) for Mrs. Chenoweth were incredible. They elevated the performance significantly and balanced the performance’s emotional weight.

It was 15 years ago since her last performance in New Jersey. If you do not want to miss such moments, check out the upcoming shows at New Jersey’s premier concert hall: NJPAC
