This weekend, I was able to have a fun girls night out and go see Legally Blonde while it is being performed at West Valley Arts. I have never been to this theater before, so I had no idea what to expect as far as theater and production quality. I have seen Legally Blonde on Broadway, though, and, of course, I love the movie, so I was excited to come and see it live on stage.
The West Valley Arts’ production of Legally Blonde is nothing short of a delightful, feel-good experience that will have you dancing in your seat and cheering for Elle Woods all over again. If you’re a fan of the original movie, you’ll find this stage adaptation to be a vibrant celebration of everything that makes the story so beloved—complete with catchy tunes, sharp choreography, and a cast that clearly loves every minute of their time on stage.
I absolutely loved the set up of the theater–it was so charming and open. West Valley Arts offers a theater in the round, which always makes for a unique approach to a show. It worked perfectly for this show, and I loved how intimate the theater was, making our experience even better. It’s clear that this production has nailed the spirit of Legally Blonde. The set design is cleverly done, yet minimal, bringing Harvard’s hallowed halls and the sunny sidewalks of California to life before our eyes. The colorful costumes pop against the backdrop, perfectly capturing the contrast between Elle’s bright personality and the more muted tones of the East Coast elite.
The cast is where this production truly shines. The actress playing Elle Woods (Rachel Martorana) is a powerhouse, effortlessly combining charm, wit, and an incredible voice. Her journey from sorority queen to Harvard law grad is both inspiring and entertaining, with plenty of laugh-out-loud moments along the way. The chemistry between characters can be felt throughout the theater. Meanwhile, the supporting cast members, particularly Paulette (Madison Archibald) and Emmett (Geoff Beckstrand) bring their own unique flair, rounding out the ensemble with memorable performances that add depth and humor to the story.
The musical numbers are another highlight, with the cast delivering high-energy performances that are impossible not to love. Songs like “Omigod You Guys” and “Bend and Snap” are as catchy as ever, and you’ll likely find yourself humming them long after the show ends. The choreography is tight and creative, making full use of the stage and ensuring there’s never a dull moment.
This production of Legally Blonde is a must-see for theater lovers and fans of the original film alike. It’s a joyful, uplifting show that leaves you with a smile on your face and a spring in your step. Whether you’re looking for a fun night out with friends or a family-friendly performance that everyone can enjoy, this show delivers on all fronts. Don’t miss the chance to see it while it’s playing at West Valley Arts now until August 31st—you’ll be glad you did!
