There’s just something about the music of The Beatles that gets into your soul. Whether you grew up with them, your parents blasted them on long car rides, or you’ve just discovered their genius through movies like Yesterday, their music is truly timeless. So when I saw that the Utah Symphony was putting on Revolution: The Music of the Beatles at Abravanel Hall, I knew I had to go. And let me just say—WOW. What an unforgettable experience!
From the moment we stepped into Abravanel Hall, you could feel the buzz of excitement in the air. The lobby was full of fans of all ages—kids wearing Beatles tees, couples on date night, and even entire families grooving together. It felt like a celebration before the music even began.
And then the lights dimmed. A hush fell over the crowd. And the opening notes? Pure magic.
This wasn’t just a cover concert. Revolution is a multimedia symphonic experience, combining incredible arrangements of Beatles classics with a stunning visual backdrop that featured rare and never-before-seen photos and videos, curated from the Beatles’ own archives. Every single note felt fresh yet nostalgic—like hearing your favorite song again for the first time.
The Utah Symphony absolutely nailed it. They took iconic songs like “Yesterday,” “Come Together,” “Eleanor Rigby,” “Hey Jude,” and “Let It Be” and gave them new life with lush strings, soaring horns, and heartfelt emotion. The live vocalists were phenomenal, staying true to the original sound while still adding their own flair. It was a delicate balance of respect and reinterpretation, and it was flawless.
Honestly, there were several times I got chills. And during “Hey Jude,” the entire audience sang along, arms swaying, voices lifted—it was electric. Like we were all part of something bigger than ourselves.
If you’ve never been to a Utah Symphony Pops concert before, let me be the first to say: do it. The energy is so different from your typical classical concert. People clap, sing, laugh, and get into it. It’s fun, fresh, and oh-so-family-friendly. This was one of those rare events where you could take your Beatles-loving dad and your TikTok-obsessed teen, and both would walk away smiling.
If you missed Revolution, don’t worry—there’s still so much to look forward to this season at the Utah Symphony!
