Okay, Utah moms, dads, and thrill-loving families, listen up—because something huge is landing in our backyard this summer.

The X Games are coming to Salt Lake City for the very first time, and it’s not just any year—it’s the 30th anniversary of this iconic event. The X Games. In OUR city. This is history, people.

Whether you’re an action-sports junkie or you’ve never watched more than a skateboarding highlight reel on Instagram, trust me—this is going to be one of those “we were there” moments you’ll talk about for years. And it’s perfect for families who love to get outside, feel the energy of something big, and show our kids what fearless looks like.

Quick breakdown: the X Games launched back in 1995 as a showcase for extreme sports—skateboarding, BMX, motocross, all the wild, gravity-defying stuff that made our generation fall in love with Tony Hawk and the sound of wheels on pavement. But this isn’t just about tricks and flips. It’s a whole lifestyle.

Over the last 30 years, the X Games have evolved into a global celebration of pushing limits, getting creative, and turning raw talent into jaw-dropping performance. These athletes don’t just compete—they tell stories with their bodies and their boards, bikes, and dirt bikes. It’s art in motion, with a side of adrenaline.

Salt Lake City isn’t new to the world stage—we all remember the 2002 Olympics—but this? This is different. This is loud. This is electric. This is a magnet for the kind of culture that thrives on community, creativity, and a little bit of rebellion.

The X Games being hosted here is a huge win for our city. It’s a nod to our thriving outdoor scene and the fact that Utah families don’t just watch sports—we live them. Our kids are on scooters, boards, bikes, and skis from the time they can walk. So having the X Games here? Feels like a natural fit.

And with the events happening at the Utah State Fairpark, it’s central, it’s accessible, and it’s going to be totally transformed into a high-energy, multi-day celebration of everything rad.

I know some of you might be wondering—is this actually family-friendly?

YES. A thousand times, yes.

While the athletes are busy soaring through the air and pulling off impossible tricks, the rest of the event is packed with music, food, interactive zones, and a vibe that’s all about bringing people together. You don’t have to be a sports fanatic to enjoy it. You just have to show up ready to have fun.

Here’s what you’ll find:

  • Next-level competitions – We’re talking Olympic-caliber athletes doing things that make your heart stop—in the best way. Skateboarding, BMX, and motocross events that’ll leave you and your kids in total awe.
  • Interactive zones for kids and teens – This isn’t just a spectator event. There will be spaces where kids can try mini ramps, test their skills, and meet some of the athletes. If you’ve got a kid who’s glued to their scooter or skateboard, this will be their Disneyland.
  • Live music + festival vibes – Think: summer party meets music festival meets world-class sporting event. There’s always a great lineup of performers to keep the energy sky-high.
  • Local food trucks and vendors – Because let’s be honest, no adventure is complete without snacks. You’ll find everything from family favorites to bold new flavors. Come hungry.

I always talk about making memories with our families. It’s why I started The Mommy Avenger in the first place—to find joy in the everyday and the once-in-a-lifetime. And this? This is one of those once-in-a-lifetime moments.

Can’t you picture it: look on your kids’ faces when they see someone land a trick they didn’t even think was possible. The beat of the music pumping through the crowd. The way people—locals and visitors—come together to celebrate something bold and exciting and joyful.

We need more of that. And it’s happening right here, in our city, this summer.

Here’s what I’m planning to do—and recommend you do too:

  • Get tickets early. These will go fast. Look for weekend passes if you want to make a full family adventure out of it.
  • Plan for flexibility. There’s going to be a lot to take in, so don’t stress about seeing everything. Let the kids lead the way and follow the energy.
  • Bring your people. Invite the cousins. Make it a friend group day. Get the grandparents in on the fun. The more, the merrier.
  • Talk about it after. What did your kids love most? What blew their minds? Moments like these are conversation starters that stay with them.

The 30th anniversary of the X Games isn’t just a sports event. It’s a cultural milestone. It’s the kind of thing that makes a city feel alive. And this summer, we get to be right in the middle of it.

So Utah, let’s do what we do best: rally the troops, pack the snacks, grab the sunscreen, and show up for something epic.

Let’s make memories that are loud, bold, and unforgettable.
