Let me set the scene: it’s 1995. I’m in high school. My friends and I are wearing chokers, baby tees, and way too much body glitter. And on a hot summer day, we walk into a movie theater and see Clueless for the very first time.

Instant classic.

It was smart, it was snarky, and it had a look and language all its own. Watching Clueless in the theater was a snapshot of teen life through a glossy, Beverly Hills lens. And now? It’s turning 30.

Yes, 30. AS IF!

But here’s the good news: Fathom Entertainment is bringing Clueless back to theaters for its 30th anniversary as part of their Big Screen Classics series. That means it’s time to revisit the laughs, the cringe, and the unforgettable outfits on the big screen. Just like the first time I saw it.

In case you missed it the first time around (or just forgot the plot under a plot of 90s pop culture) Clueless is a modern retelling of Jane Austen’s Emma, set in 90s-era Beverly Hills. Cher (Alicia Silverstone) is a wealthy teen who fancies herself a matchmaker and makeover queen. She meddles in other people’s lives, fumbles through friendships, and learns that she might not have all the answers after all. It’s quirky, it’s quotable, and it has just enough heart to balance out the designer-label drama.

The movie holds up because it never took itself too seriously. It pokes fun at teen privilege while still giving us something sweet to root for. And yes, the fashion is somehow both ridiculous and back in style (again).

I saw Clueless in theaters when it came out, and now I get to do it again—with better snacks and less glitter. There’s something satisfying about watching a movie that poked fun at its own era, while fully embracing it. Plus, it’s a solid excuse to get out of the house and laugh at something that doesn’t involve real-world stress.
