Okay, let’s talk about a little magic. Not the kind where someone else does the laundry (although, yes please), but the Disney kind—the sing-along, goosebumps, full-orchestra, starry-night kind. This Friday night, July 18th, Disney in Concert is taking over the Deer Valley Music Festival, and it’s sure to be hands down one of the best family-friendly events of the summer.
It’s Disney music. But not just any Disney music—this show brings you the absolute best of the ’80s and ’90s animated classics (The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Mulan… you get it), plus some Pixar gems and even deep cuts from Newsies and A Goofy Movie. Basically, it’s everything we grew up on—and now we get to pass it down to our kids in the most magical way possible: live on stage, with the full Utah Symphony bringing it all to life.
Broadway-level vocalists, and that full, rich symphonic sound behind every note. Your kids will be starry-eyed. You might cry a little during “Go the Distance.” It’s fine. You’re in a safe space.
The concert takes place outdoors at the Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater at Deer Valley, which is honestly one of my favorite places in Utah to do anything. Bring a blanket or some low chairs, pack a picnic (or grab something delicious there), and settle in on the grass under the mountains. The kids can wiggle. The grownups can breathe. Everyone’s happy.
And let me just say: the vibe is pure summer. Crisp air, golden sunset, and music that actually makes you feel things. Even your teenager will admit it’s cool (maybe not out loud, but you’ll see it in their face during “Circle of Life”).
The Utah Symphony is legit. They’ve been doing the Deer Valley Music Festival for over 20 years now, and every time they step on stage, it’s clear why. This is not your average community orchestra. These musicians are world-class, and they bring so much power and emotion to everything they play.
Pair that with Broadway vocalists—yes, real-deal performers who’ve played Elphaba, Belle, Jasmine, Kristoff—and you’ve got a concert that hits on every level.
Why This is the Perfect Family Night
- Zero pressure. This isn’t a “shush the kids and stay in your seat” kind of concert. It’s open, laid-back, and designed for families.
- Built-in nostalgia. Your kids are listening to Aladdin. You’re remembering when you bought the cassette tape.
- Room to move. Let them dance. Let them snack. Let them be loud during “Hakuna Matata.” It’s all welcome here.
- Memory maker. You’ll talk about this night all summer. Maybe all year.
What to Bring
- A blanket or low chairs (you’ll want something to sit on)
- Layers (mountain evenings can surprise you)
- Snacks, drinks, or a full picnic (go all in—it’s part of the fun)
- Something small for the kids to do before showtime (coloring book, light-up toy, etc.)
- Your camera. These moments? You’ll want to remember them.
You don’t have to overthink this one. It’s easy, it’s fun, and it’s going to be one of those nights that checks all the boxes: family time, great music, fresh air, and actual joy on your kids’ faces. You can’t buy that kind of magic—but you can experience it.
So get your tickets, grab the kids, throw some sandwiches in a cooler, and head up the mountain. Disney, the Utah Symphony, and a blanket under the stars? This is the good stuff.
