Confession time: I am a massive Harry Potter fan — books, movies, theme parks, merch — you name it, I’m there. Somehow, though, I never got around to reading Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. I remember when it first hit Broadway and everyone was buzzing about how you had to see it over two days to get the full story. As much as I wanted to, coordinating a two-day Broadway commitment felt like trying to catch the Golden Snitch with one hand tied behind my back.

Fast forward to now — the show has been revamped and reimagined into one seamless performance, and let me tell you, it’s pure magic.

Walking into the Lyric Theatre, I could feel something special in the air. The theater itself is stunning — grand, elegant, and somehow cozy all at once. The energy was electric. Everywhere I turned, there were fellow Potterheads chatting excitedly, decked out in house colors, ready to be transported back into the wizarding world. And can we talk about the at-your-seat service? Frozen Butterbeer and chocolate frogs delivered right to you during the show. Ten-year-old me (and okay, grown-up me too) was absolutely thrilled.

The story picks up years after the final battle at Hogwarts, following Harry Potter’s son, Albus, and Draco Malfoy’s son, Scorpius. Without spoiling too much, let’s just say their journey proves that growing up in the shadow of famous parents isn’t always easy — and sometimes, friendship shows up in the most unexpected places.

The cast did an amazing job pulling us into this new chapter of the wizarding world. Erik Christopher Peterson as Scorpius Malfoy and Alex Serino as Albus Potter were the heart of the story. Their chemistry, humor, and vulnerability carried the show beautifully. And can we give a huge shoutout to Allie Re as Moaning Myrtle? The moment she appeared, it felt like the movies had stepped right onto the stage. She absolutely nailed it.

Now, let’s talk about the magic. I honestly went in wondering, “How on earth are they going to pull off spells, duels, and all the wizarding chaos in a live play?” Well… they did. And it was jaw-dropping. The special effects were mind-blowingly good — I don’t even want to spoil them for you because part of the fun is the surprise. But I will say this: in the opening act, as the new generation of wizards prepared to head off to Hogwarts, their costumes literally changed before our eyes. It was seamless, stunning, and had the entire audience gasping.

Throughout the show, I found myself completely immersed. It was like being reintroduced to old friends while meeting fascinating new ones — all wrapped up in the thrill of live theater. The visuals, the performances… everything worked together to bring the world of Harry Potter to life in a way that felt fresh yet comfortingly familiar.

And if you needed one more reason to grab tickets — starting November 11, 2025, Tom Felton will be reprising his role as Draco Malfoy for a limited engagement! Yes, the Tom Felton. You better believe I’m already planning a return trip.

If you find yourself in New York City, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at the Lyric Theatre is an absolute must-see. Whether you’re a die-hard Potterhead or just love great theater, this show will cast a spell on you!

Trust me — this is one Broadway experience you don’t want to miss!
