As soon as I feel that first hint of spring in the air, my mind goes straight to sunshine. Not just a warm day at home, but real sunshine. The kind that reflects off the water, warms your shoulders, and instantly relaxes you. Lately, when I start dreaming about that kind of escape, one place comes to mind almost immediately: Miami.
There is something truly magical about this city. I’ve visited more than once, and every single time it feels different. New restaurants pop up. New neighborhoods catch my attention. Even the familiar spots somehow feel fresh again. Miami has this energy that makes you want to explore just one more block, stay out just a little longer, and try something you’ve never done before.
As I’m planning our upcoming trip, I’ve decided I want to build in a few fun excursions. I’ve learned that while I love wandering and discovering things organically, booking something intentional adds another layer to the experience. It gives you a chance to see a place from a completely different perspective.
Whenever I visit a city surrounded by water, I always try to get out on a boat. There’s no better way to get your bearings. Seeing the skyline from the water helps you understand the layout of the city, and it’s usually one of the most relaxing parts of the trip. That’s why I’ve been looking at tours with Miami Boat Tours.

They offer a variety of sightseeing cruises that honestly all sound amazing. One of the highlights is a cruise through Biscayne Bay where you can take in the stunning Miami skyline from the water. There’s something about that view. The mix of modern glass buildings against the bright blue sky feels vibrant and glamorous all at once.

What really caught my eye is the chance to cruise past the celebrity homes that line the waterfront. Star Island and the surrounding areas are known for their jaw-dropping mansions. I’ll admit, I’m always a little curious about how the other half lives. Seeing those incredible properties from the boat, with the breeze coming off the bay, sounds like such a fun way to spend an afternoon.
They also offer evening and sunset cruises, which might be at the very top of my list. Imagine watching the sun dip down over the water, the sky turning shades of pink and orange, and the city lights starting to twinkle. There is something so peaceful about being on the water at sunset. It feels romantic and calming at the same time. I can already picture myself sitting back, taking it all in, and feeling so grateful for the moment.

Because I love trying new things whenever we travel, I’m also planning a day trip to Key West. It’s one of those places I’ve always wanted to explore more, and I was excited to find out how easy it is to do as a day trip from Miami with Miami Tour Bus.
The idea of hopping on a comfortable, air-conditioned tour bus and letting someone else handle the driving sounds perfect. The ride itself is supposed to be part of the experience, crossing the Overseas Highway with those incredible stretches of water on both sides. I can only imagine how beautiful that drive must be.
Once in Key West, you have time to explore on your own. Whether it’s strolling along Duval Street, grabbing fresh seafood, visiting historic sites, or simply soaking up the laid-back island vibe, it feels like you’re getting a completely different Florida experience in just one day. I love that it’s simple and stress-free. No rental car logistics. No worrying about directions. Just show up, enjoy, and head back when the day is done.

Another excursion I’m seriously considering is the 5-in-1 City Tour, which covers some of Miami’s most iconic spots in one organized experience. It includes time in South Beach and along Ocean Drive, where the pastel Art Deco buildings and palm-lined streets feel straight out of a movie. There’s a stop in Wynwood, known for its bold street art and creative energy. Little Havana offers a taste of Cuban culture, from the music to the food to the strong cafecito that gives you a little extra pep in your step. And of course, cruising past Star Island adds that touch of Miami glamour.

What I love about tours like this is that they give you a solid overview of the city. You get to see the highlights, learn a bit of history, and then decide which areas you might want to go back and explore more deeply on your own.
As I sit here planning and daydreaming, I can already feel that Miami sunshine. I’m excited to book these excursions, to step out of my routine, and to experience the city in new ways. Travel, for me, is about creating memories and staying curious. And if there’s one thing Miami does well, it’s giving you endless opportunities to do just that.

Spring can’t come soon enough. I’m ready to sit back, feel the breeze off Biscayne Bay, watch the sunset over the skyline, and soak up every bit of fun on our upcoming trip to Miami. Be on the lookout for what we thought when we get there!
