Escape From Germany

Have you ever been to SCERA in Orem, Utah? If you haven’t, put it on your list of places to visit for entertainment. SCERA boasts live entertainment, including concerts and musicals, as well as movies. This past weekend, we were able to head on down and see a new release there on the big screen, Escape from Germany.

Not familiar with this new release? We weren’t either, but quickly found it was an amazing story worth watching.

In 1939, Hitler’s army was closing borders, and eighty-five American missionaries were in Germany serving their church. The escape of these missionaries from Nazi Germany is one of the most dramatic events to occur in modern church history. Written and Directed by T.C. Christensen.

I’ve always been fascinated by events that took place during World War II, but until watching this movie, was really only familiar with stories from people who lived in Europe at the time, not those who may have found themselves in a dangerous situation living there temporarily. Since my family has served LDS missions like the young men in this story, these accounts are especially touching as a mom to watch and imagine what that would have been like to live through.

I was interested to learn more after seeing the movie and I was impressed to find out that these stories were taken directly from the diaries of the missionaries and to hear of the accuracy of those accounts. The story is riveting and very well done, one worth taking the time to see, for sure.

I highly recommend purchasing your tickets while it is showing for a limited engagement at SCERA. Be sure, also, to check out upcoming events for some retro 80’s movie nights outdoors, upcoming concerts and musicals. There is so much entertainment in the works at SCERA!
