This summer has been all about fitness for my kids. Swimming, running, and football are everyday activities in preparation for the fall sports season. I can see my kids totally getting into shape and I have to say, it’s inspired me to really get off my butt and getting moving.
For this reason, I was especially happy to join forces* with Balance Bar and Walmart to participate in the Balance Bar Summer Shape Up campaign. I headed to my local Walmart to find Balance Bars, which I had actually never tried before and to pick up some exercise essentials to help me get started.
It was very easy to find Balance Bars at Walmart. They were located in the section near the vitamins and supplements. My biggest challenge here was selecting which flavors to try. I went with Cookie Dough and Peanut Butter.
Then I headed over to the exercise and sports section in the back of the store to find some things to help me get started with shaping up. I am not a big fan of exercise, but I thoroughly enjoy walking. I like the way I feel after a very long walk and happen to live in an area that has so many beautiful trails to walk on. So I knew this is how I wanted to get into shape. I picked up a few things to make my walks more beneficial like hand weights. I also needed a new water bottle for walking to keep me hydrated. I am terrible at drinking water, so this is part of my summer shape up plan, too. For some variety, I got some toning equipment to do at home after the walks. I was set!
The next day, before my walk, I tried one of the Cookie Dough flavored Balance Bars. Yum! This was not what I was expecting at all. Really, rather than a chalky granola type bar, it tasted as if I was eating candy. A smooth chocolatey coating with a creamy cookie dough filling. But I knew the ingredients in the Balance Bar were far different from that in candy. This energy bar got my work out kickstarted and I had a wonderful 3 mile walk. I felt great!
I’ve made it a habit to start exercising again at least 3-4 times a week, which is quite the accomplishment considering our busy schedule. I am happy to have tried Balance Bars, as they work great for this purpose and taste great, too.
To inspire others everywhere, Balance Bar will be posting tips and exercises on their Facebook page to get us all moving and in shape. Are you up for the Balance Bar Summer Shape Up Challenge? What’s your favorite way to exercise?

I’ve heard that Balance Bar is a really good brand. I’ve never tried them before, but I think I’ll pick some up the next time I’m at the store. Good job on sticking with the work outs. They are all too easy to push aside.
I think the balance bar would be great for my trails and adventures. It’s handy and loaded with just the right amount of nutrients needed.
I have gone back and fourth with protein bars and these are some of my favorites, great quick lunch or breakfast.
This looks like a great giveaway. I have never tried the balance bars but I have seen them a time or two when I have gone to Walmart. I may have to give them a shot.
My favorite fitness activity is definitely swimming – whether it be at the lake, ocean, or pool. It is something I can do for hours without feeling like I am putting too much strain on myself!
Good to know! I don’t get a lot of bars but I’ll have to try them out!
