Taking ACUVUE Back to School

School is back in session after a whirlwind summer.  We were loaded with work, sports, learning to drive, fun and adventure.  Towards the end, we had to gear up for back to school with clothes and shoe shopping, school supplies and the like.  One of the most important things I do to get my kids ready for back to school are any necessary appointments, so that they are ready to go.  At the top of that list are eye exams.  Being able to see and making sure contact and glass prescriptions are accurate is crucial to learning everyday.  So, getting their eyes checked on a yearly basis is something that has to take place.  I made sure that my kids had their exams before going back to school and were all set.

This year, I was invited *to partner with ACUVUE to have my own eyes checked out by Dr. Whittam in New York City.  While I always make sure my kids have the most up to date prescriptions, as a mom, I sometimes stretch it a bit far in between my own appointments.  I had let my own contact prescription expire.  The last time I wore contacts, I found that my eyes were drying out easily and wearing contacts was turning into more of a pain than a convenience.  After a couple of years of exclusively wearing glasses, and some education from ACUVUE and Dr.  Denise Whittam, I decided to get fitted and give wearing contacts a chance again.

When I wore contacts before, I would stretch out the life of the contact.  I had two week lenses and maybe I would stretch that to a month or more.  Eek, right?! What I learned from Dr. Whittam is that is the worst thing I could be doing.  Even letting a pair of two week contacts sit in the case with solution go a day or two between wearing them is bad.  It’s just allowing the contacts to bathe in bacteria, literally marinating in germs, making your eyes more susceptible to infections.  Who has time to deal with that?  Now that I know that, I’m kind of horrified at the thought.

What I learned from Dr. Whittam is that I should try the one day disposable contacts.  The benefit of using one day contacts is that you can throw them away at the end of the day, you don’t have to worry about cases, solutions, or infections to the eye.  ACUVUE has the perfect lens for what she was suggesting I try.

ACUVUE® provides a holistic approach to UV protection, bringing healthy vision to people everywhere as the only major contact lens brand that meets industry standards for UV blocking across its entire product line. ACUVUE® offers contact lenses such as the  ACUVUE OASYS® 1-DAY with HydraLuxe™ Technology with the highest level of UV blocking available, blocking more than 90 percent of UVA rays and 99 percent of UVB rays that reach the lens. ‡*

I mentioned that I had an issue with my eyes being dry before, by using the ACUVUE OASYS® 1-DAY with HydraLuxe™ Technology, I was solving that problem.  The lenses have a built-in rewetting drops that keep your eyes feeling fresh and alert.  From the moment I put them on my eyes, my eyes felt great.  Dr. Whittam explained to me that these lenses are perfect for multi-tasking moms.  You can wear them all day long–working, exercising, taking the kids to school, and all the other places they go, and work in front of a computer screen, and your eyes feel fantastic.  Even after wearing them for 14 hours or more each day.  I can attest to that, as I have done all of those things and more.  At the end of the day, I simply took them out of my eyes and tossed them in the trash.  My eyes felt so great, which is a big difference from years past when I wore contacts.

While these lenses are perfect for a busy mom, Dr. Whittam made me realize how perfect it would be for kids, teens especially.  I’ve heard it said before that parents think their child needs to be 18 or older to wear contacts.  That is not the case at all!  You would be surprised to know that kids and teens are great at using contacts, actually sometimes better than adults.  I know with my own children, contacts are a way better solution than glasses.  Glasses get in the way with sports, for sure, and can make outdoor or active activities a pain. ACUVUE OASYS® 1-DAY with HydraLuxe™ Technology is perfect for them because they can wear contacts that keep their eyes moist and feeling good going from school, to sports, to work, etc.  Then at the end of the night, they can simply throw them out.  You never have to worry about them sleeping in them ( a huge no-no!) or not cleaning the lenses well enough, or getting an infection in their eyes.  It saves so much hassle and pain.  Plus, if they are wanting a new look for back to school, getting contacts certainly give them a huge confidence boost!

I will be switching over to the ACUVUE OASYS® 1-DAY with HydraLuxe™ Technology for myself and my children because they are so great.  We all have very sensitive light colored eyes, so the added benefit of UV protection on the lens while we are outdoors is fantastic.  I love that added level of protection.

I walked into Dr. Whittam’s office wearing my glasses, but walked out with my new lenses and saw everything so clearly and accurately. Every cloud in the gorgeous blue sky was so clear to my eyes.  I felt refreshed and loved the way my eyes looked with them on instead of glasses.  I’ve been converted and am excited to wear contacts now instead of glasses in my day to day life.

I highly recommend trying these ACUVUE OASYS® 1-DAY with HydraLuxe™ Technology for all the busy moms and kids out there.  You will love them!  To learn more about ACUVUE, visit their website.  Be sure to schedule your own Back to School fittings for your family, too!
