I love going to the theatre, but can you believe I’ve never been to the State Theatre New Jersey? Blasphemy for a Jersey Girl, right? Well, I’m about to fix that by going to see one of their big touring productions, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, this weekend. I’m sure everyone has heard a lot of talk about that musical. I know I did, but somehow also never managed to go in to the city to see it when Neil Patrick Harris was starring in the show. So, two firsts for me this weekend and I am very much looking forward to it. I love state theaters for this reason, not everyone can go to a Broadway show in New York City, but with touring productions, part of the Broadway Series at State Theatre New Jersey, you can see excellent quality shows in your own backyard, at a fraction of the price you would pay in New York.
Hedwig and the Angry Inch is playing at the State Theatre New Jersey this weekend:
Friday, May 19, 2017 at 8pm
Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 2pm & 8pm
Sunday, May 21, 2017 at 2pm & 8pm
Brilliantly innovative, heartbreaking, and wickedly funny, Hedwig and the Angry Inch is the landmark American musical by John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask that is “shamelessly enjoyable and furiously funny” (The New York Times). This genre-bending musical sensation, with a pulsing score and electrifying performances, tells the story of one of the most unique characters to ever hit the stage. It’s about finding your other half; it’s the story of the origin of love.
Directed by Tony Award®-winner Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening) and starring Tony Award®-nominee Euan Morton, Hedwig and the Angry Inch played to record-breaking sell-out crowds on Broadway. After winning four Tony Awards® (including Best Musical Revival), Hedwig continues to inspire critics and audiences alike to lift up their hands and cheer.
Tickets are available for $35-$85 and can be purchased by visiting State Theatre New Jersey.
I hope to see you there!
