An Evening With Glen Hansard

This past weekend, I was invited to visit the historic Town Hall in New York City for an evening of entertainment from prolific Grammy-award winning Irish artist Glen Hansard. A huge fan of the musical Once, I knew I loved those selections he lent his talents to write, however I was unaware of the rest of his music.  I was looking forward to seeing what the night would hold.

The night was wonderful. At 8pm, Glen took the stage and played continuously for over three hours straight without an intermission!  I felt as if I had been invited to an intimate gathering of friends to listen to recollections and emotions reflected in song and stories.  As Glen had once lived in New York City and spent an enormous amount of time there, he shared with us personal experiences and explanations of his songs that he wrote while living there.  We were also treated the talent of some of Glen’s close friends as they joined him on stage from the audience.  It was like watching a family reunion, such joy and love exhibited towards each other and the audience was enthralled by what took place with the gathering.

Not really knowing what to expect, I was blown away by the talent Glen possesses.  The show was entirely acoustic, incredible and throughly enjoyable.  I highly recommend seeing him live and would love to see him again, myself. It was an evening well spent!

You can see him live as he tours all over the world this spring, with several shows on the East Coast to check out.  Find out more about his tour and his music by visiting his website.

*I was invited to see the show to facilitate a feature, all opinions are my own.
