I love spending an evening out with my husband. It’s amazing to get away and have a wonderful meal together. This past weekend, we were invited* to enjoy a meal at Salt Creek Grille Princeton and I am excited to share with you this gem of a restaurant.
Upon walking into the restaurant, it is warm and welcoming with a glowing fireplace, a pleasing reprieve from a chilly New Jersey winter night. The atmosphere is an upscale casual feel, you would feel comfortable in business casual attire easily or even a little more dressed up. A great place to go out for a romantic dinner without the kids or even a nicer dinner with the kids. It’s pretty versatile.
We were greeted by a very friendly hostess and shown to our seats, a comfortable booth nestled in the corner of the main dining room, where we could see out across the restaurant. There were people celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, enjoying drinks at the bar, and taking in great conversations and delicious food. While I don’t drink alcohol, I did see there was a very large selection of speciality drinks, cocktails, martinis, and craft beers to choose from.
Our server was very attentive and took our order right away. We were in for a night of delectable food and impeccable service.
We started our meal with the one of the Chef’s Daily Selections Tomato Bisque soup with grilled cheese croutons (I loved them!) and the Seafood Chowder which is loaded with clams, Market Fish, potatoes, celery, onions, herbs, cream. Both were really satisfying and a great way to start our meal.
Next, our entrees arrived. The Double-Cut Grille Pork Chops with bacon-mushroom jus, creamy Mascarpone polenta, roasted brussels sprouts, caramelized shallots & kale, a dinner menu favorite. This was a rich and savory meal that was an excellent choice.
I opted for one of the evening’s special menu items, Three steak medallions over mashed potatoes with asparagus and herbed garlic butter. My steak was cooked perfectly, just as I had requested, the vegetables and potatoes were divine and the garlic butter was the perfect accompaniment for all the items on my plate.
Even though we were stuffed at this point, we wanted to try some of the desserts we had seen on other tables. So many choices to select from, our server highly recommended the butter cake and the lemon ricotta fritters, so we took her recommendation and were not disappointed!
The butter cake was served with fresh whipped cream and Thomas Sweet’s vanilla ice cream. Surprisingly rich, but oh so good!
The lemon ricotta fritters were sort of like donuts, only once you cut into them, a creamy lemon ricotta filling was inside. Dipped in the strawberry jam on the plate, it was a very creative and unusual dessert that I absolutely loved.
We had a thoroughly enjoyable dinner and I would come back to Salt Creek Grille in a heartbeat. Everything about our experiences was perfect!
