Celebrating the Year of the Ox

I love to travel and explore new places, as you know, but this year, that’s not able to happen. I love learning about different cultures and celebrations, too, and a pandemic can’t stop that from happening! We decided to learn a bit about the Chinese Lunar New Year and do something new at home at the same time. So I’m sharing with you some fun things to make your own at-home celebration to welcome in the Year of the Ox.

First off, we love the adorable printables you can get from PlayWithPurposeKids. This inexpensive Chinese New Year pack has what you need to help you understand what the holiday and traditions are about and make the holiday fun. Plus, it’s quick and easy to purchase on Etsy with an instant download. All you need is a printer and you are ready to set the stage for a fun celebration!

You’ll want to wear some festive gear to celebrate and Etsy shop VarieTEE has tons of great options for every member of the family, including the sweetest onesies for the littlest ones! We love these Year of the Ox tees that are super soft and comfy and only get softer with each wash. You can pick up many different variations for the Chinese New Year and be sure to check out their great shop for lots of other merchandise, too!

Celebrating by filling special red envelopes with money is traditonal, but where do you get them? Check out Etsy shop HelpingCreate! They specialize in helping create lasting memories, which I love. Who wouldn’t love this tradition of receiving a good luck gift for the Chinese New Year? These envelopes are very high quality and add the perfect flair for the celebration. Be sure to check out her shop for not only party accessories, but great learning resources, too!

You’ll want to set the tone for the celebration with decorations and such. How about these intoxicating hand poured natural soy candles from VintageLuxeBySarah? You can select a wide array of candles from this charming shop–be it Chinese New Year, Zodiac, or even relaxation inducing aromatherapy candles infused with dried flowers and crystals. All of them are amazing! For our celebrations, though, we love that there is a specific candle to celebrate the new year with a description of the Year of the Ox (or any other corresponding New Year). With the candle comes a special scratch off fortune card, too! I will be stocking up on these great candles for the rest of the year, too, because they are heavenly! Be sure to visit Sarah’s shop and enjoy perusing her selections!

When it comes time to sit down and enjoy your dinner of delicious noodles, we love these high quality chopsticks that can be used for everyday or special occasions alike. We love these chopsticks because they are so comfortable in your hands, so smooth to the touch, and made of such durable material. They are actually so beautiful to look at, pictures don’t do them justice. You can pick up your own set of these beauties at Etsy shop FaithMoveMt (a favorite shop of ours!). Be sure to check out this shop for many varieties of chopsticks, see the details of how these are made, and also pick up some fun children’s toys, too!

To end the night on a sweet note, we love these delectable macarons from SNDKgroup, the house of sweet and savories. Oh my gosh, they are delicate and delicious! We love the festive red and white colors for our celebrations, but they even have a special edition red velvet and gold dusted Year of the Ox ones that would be really great, too! These cookies were amazing and super affordable. I highly recommend them!
