One of my favorite fall activities when I lived on the East Coast was taking my kids to New York Comic Con each October. We had so much fun seeing all the great pop culture, latest news and releases, panels, celebrities, and, of course, all the Cosplay. It was always so much fun for my kids to get dressed up and just enjoy the weekend with everyone else that was super excited to be there. I was sad to leave that behind because we always had so much fun. Little did I know at the time that Salt Lake City had its own event that was growing and evolving. Fan X is the ultimate destination for pop culture fanatics of all ages and this year, it is celebrating 10 years! I’ve gotten to go the last couple of years and it is so much fun!

This year, I must admit, I am geeking out a bit at the thought of going. You see, when I was 8 years old, my very favorite movie came out, Back to the Future. I was able to see it in the movie theater and never had I loved a movie so much. It’s one that I can watch over and over again and not get tired of it. My eight year old self went home after seeing the movie and somehow found a way to write to Michael J. Fox (my all time favorite actor) and tell him how much I loved the movie. You know what happened? He wrote me back! He sent me some autographed pictures and I was beyond thrilled. I kept those pictures for decades until they were lost in a flood, which was an absolute bummer.

Of course, I had to introduce my kids to Back to the Future at an early age and they all loved it. One of my boys, in particular, loves it as much as I do and every year when I would take him to NYCC, he would be dressed as Marty McFly. He was interviewed about it a few times one year because he costume was spot-on and he looked just like him. We’ve been to the release of movies on the 30th anniversary and watched the whole trilogy back to back in one day. We LOVE Back to the Future.

I’m geeking out this year, though, because, as part of the FanX 10 year anniversary line up, several of the cast members of Back to the Future are going to be there! Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, and Tom Wilson will be there and they will be having a special Back to the Future panel, which I can’t wait for! I may get to meet them all in person and you can, too!

There are so many other celebrity guests coming to FanX this year, too, from fandoms such as Marvel, DC, Disney, Star Wars, 90’s Sitcoms, Cartoons, and many more. There are too many to name, but check out who will be there on their website.

Going to FanX is such a great experience for everyone. Go to see the celebrities, the creative costumes, the fanfare and the fun. You will love it!

So mark your calendar for the entire weekend of September 21st-23rd, 2023, grab your tickets, and then follow the FanX social media pages (instagram, X (previously Twitter), Facebook and YouTube) and sign up for the FanX newsletter so you know all the up to date announcements for this year’s comic convention. I can’t wait to go and hope you will join me!
