One of my many excursions in the city found me outside of Rockefeller Center this past week. I love that almost every time I walk by, I see something new. There is always an art exhibition or something memorable set up. This week, it was a sculpture by artist Jeff Koons, named Split-Rocker. This living piece of art is over 37 feet high and features over 50,000 flowering plants! You can read about the inspiration for the piece here.

That is so cool! It looks like something straight out of MInecraft or Torchlight II (both video games). That’s the kind of art I like – colorful and interesting. Don’t give me a painting of a blue orb with a one page dissertation on the meaning of it. IT’S AN ORB!
Weird and wonderful! I should really get uptown more often.
Wow that is just amazing! I would love to see that in person. Great photo! =)
Wow what a great art piece. I would love to go out and see it.
That is a whole lot of flowers! I wonder how long it took him to make that?
That is so different.. I love NYC and all that it has to offer!
50,000 plants? Wow! I wish I could create something so cool. I used to love walking by there as well. 🙂
I have never heard of the split rocker, very cool. There are so many structures around the City that keeps it always new and inviting. I have only been there once.
What a great piece of art, the next time I’m in NYC I’m going to have to stop and see this!
i love to go for a walk everyday i can see different things and most of the time unexpected things and bump into different people and meet new friends too. this looks very cool firs time I see it.
It’s so nice when establishments and local governments are able to maintain the upkeep of their premises. It’s always good to see something fresh – especially in the age of smartphones. People like things that are post-worth.
I love art and this being a living piece of art is not an exception, while reading your post I was talking to my nephew who saw it and told me it totally looks like a pokemon. That’s the beauty everyone can see something different when we look in to an abstract piece.
This establishment looks awesome. Too bad I’m too far from the US. I hope to visit your country someday and see the great landmarks you have there.
that is quite impressive for sure. I really do like visiting big cities like NY and chicago.
I bet that would be a hell of a job weeding it…..
Despite what anyone says I love New York and New Yorkers..,I feel like you can never have enough of it.
This is so cool. That is a lot of plants!! I cannot imagine the upkeep on that.
50,000 flowers, I bet that’s really time consuming. That also takes a lot of skills.
Wow, 50k plants. That is a ton. What a neat thing to see. I love it. When I am next in NY I will have to go there.
I´m going to Google this to know more. I want to know the idea behind the spilt, how long it took to ensamble and how long it will last.
Like most art, I don’t get the significance of the piece but having been the Rockefeller, I agree – it’s a great place to see.
50,000 plants. That is amazing. I also love Rockefeller Center. Heck I love all of NYC!
I so wish I could take a weekend trip to NYC lol Would love to see the Rockefeller Tower!
what an awesome piece of art, I want one at home too! I wonder if it’s difficult to maintain..
creepy weird and cool I love it!
