I grew up in Colorado. Huge mountain ranges, open space and room for the deer and the antelope to play. Who would have guessed that this is the sight I see quite frequently living outside of New York City?
Yes, you saw that right, it’s a bear and it’s not in a National Park, zoo, or conservation. It’s in my neighborhood. I normally encounter them when it wouldn’t be smart to pull out a phone and snap a picture. This time I was taking my kids to a neighbor’s house to play, so I had the protection of my car to grab a quick picture.
I know from April through November, this is something I will see quite a bit of, but it’s still something I have a hard time wrapping my head around.
Have you ever come face to face with a wild animal? I would love to know about it!
While camping up here you always have the possibility of running into a bear, mostly it’s just deer though!
that’s pretty cool coming from South Africa. Poor thing. It’s just hungry.
Living on a farm, with a large back pasture, I run into animals all the time. We’ve seen bobcats, coyotes, dogs, falcons, hawks, vultures, and wild pigs, but never a bear! Be careful not to make them angry, they are not nice!
Woah! There are a lot of bears in Sequoia Ntl Park…if you leave as much as a granola bar unattended in the car they’ll find it! But of course we’re in their home so need to respect them.
I live in NYC so I have never came face to face with a wild animal in my neighborhood. Wow great pictures.
Whoa I’ve never seen one in my life. It’s so huge! I wonder if it’s soft – like a doll?
I’ve come face to face with a deer but never a bear, yikes! I haven’t even seen a bear in real life before lol.
LOL Oh my gosh, I don’t know what I’d do if I ran across a bear. Probably scream.
I would have done the same thing since seeing a bear up close is very rare. I wonder what happened to the bear afterwards.
woooo.. isn’t it dangerous? I don;t think I could freely roam around neighborhood with these wild animals going around.
That is crazy! I live in Arizona where we have Mountain Lions and I’ve yet to see one with my own eyes, I can’t imagine seeing a bear. However I have seen a little black bear in Southern Arizona after camping. Thankfully I was in my car, it was small and were driving away because we had just packed up camp.
We had mountain lions in Colorado, too. I don’t miss those! They are terrifying!
That would scare the crap out of me. I would be too scared to let me kids outside to play. Haha
Man, I know there are animals out there…we live in Michigan. But I’m so so so glad I don’t see them. I might never let the kdis out to play again, lol.
I see the same think in my neighbors yard about a month or so ago. Your bear is bigger than the one I seen though. There are frighting when they are so close to home.
woww!!! lol just came close to a raccoon and one squirrel this is amazing and scary at the same time
I am terrified of bears. I have seen a couple bears up close and they are so large and terrifying.
We have mountain lions and wolves, but not many bears outside of the mountains and wilderness ares.
I have never seen a bear in its habitat. It would be fun to see one at a safe distance. Not going through my trash though. That would be a bummer.
Oh my, that is amazing. I have never sen a bear in person and would make me very nervous to be so close, but I would love to!
I would be freaking out! Wow, that’s common?
Running into a bear is unlikely in my country – but seeing one right there – is amusing for me
To be fair, your neighborhood looks pretty forest-like! I would be terrified to come across one though!
They’re around here but I have yet to spot one. I think it’s because I want to spot one! I only find turtles, lol.
that is totally cool! haha I remmeber my first time in australia and first time seeing a kangaroo anywhere hahaha
I haven’t face one. We seldom go to zoo and if ever I’ll be facing one, I’ll run immediately and shout!
I came face to face with a buffalo and it was scary. I wanted to take a photo of it so jumped out of the car. My family yelled me back in. Thanks for sharing your beer sighting.
OMG… that is so scary!!! You didnt thought of running away?? Daring you, that you stayed calm and clicked…
