Here is something I have discovered after years of being the mom who goes all-in on every seasonal event: Halloween people are not like other people. We do not wait until October. We do not ease into it. We are already thinking about it in July, we are watching horror movies in August, and we are absolutely losing our minds when someone tells us there is a legitimate reason to celebrate spooky season in May.

So when Fear Factory told me they are opening their doors on May 15-16, 2026 for their annual Halfway to Halloween event, we got our tickets and and starting planning.

Fear Factory Is Not Just a Haunted House

If you have somehow managed to live in Salt Lake City without visiting Fear Factory, first of all — we need to talk — and second, let me give you the quick version. This place is the real deal. We are talking 6 buildings, up to 6 stories high, two underground passages, and more than 100 live actors on any given night. It has been ranked #3 in the world by Buzzfeed and consistently lands in the top 10 nationally by USA Today and the Travel Channel. It is so intense that guests are required to sign a waiver before entering. I love this place so much.

Located at 666 West and 800 South in downtown Salt Lake City — yes, 666, they absolutely knew what they were doing — Fear Factory is one of those places that earns its reputation every single season.

Halfway to Halloween: The Event You Did Not Know You Needed

The Halfway to Halloween event is exactly what it sounds like and also somehow better than it sounds. It is Fear Factory doing what Fear Factory does — scaring the daylights out of you — but smack in the middle of May, when nobody expects it and honestly, that makes it even better. There is something kind of perfect about walking out of a haunted house into a warm spring evening.

This is a limited two-night experience, so May 15 and 16 are the dates to circle on your calendar right now. Do not wait. Do not think about it too long. Just go.

There Is Also a Really Beautiful Story Happening Here

Beyond the screams and the scares, Fear Factory has a genuinely wonderful community partnership that I want to make sure you know about. For the third year in a row, they have teamed up with Dr. Ryan Allen and Station Park Dental to give away a smile makeover worth more than $20,000. The winner this year is Nakomis Hardy, and her story is exactly the kind of thing that reminds you why community matters.

Nakomis has dealt with dental challenges her whole life — genetics, finances, the kinds of circumstances that follow people and make them self-conscious in ways they should not have to be. She told her story as part of a double-blind application process (names stripped away before the selection team ever sees anything), and she won. She is going to get a smile that gives her the confidence to pursue her dreams, including her goal of becoming a hairdresser.

Dr. Allen said it best: the goal is to give people renewed hope through a healthy mouth and a beautiful smile that lets them live their best lives. And Rob Dunfield, Fear Factory’s Co-Founder and COO, put it perfectly too — after a whole season of transforming actors into the scariest creatures on earth, it is pretty wonderful to turn around and transform someone’s smile into something beautiful.

I do not know, that just gets me. A haunted house that gives back. Salt Lake City, we have something special here.

Mark Your Calendars for the Full 2026 Season

If you miss Halfway to Halloween (please don’t, but just in case), Fear Factory’s full fall season kicks off on Friday, September 11, 2026 and runs on weekends through the end of September, then expands to Thursday-Sunday in October, before going nightly starting October 21 all the way through Halloween on October 31. And then — because the team is absolutely committed — they host their legendary Blackout Night on Friday, November 6, where all the house lights go dark and guests navigate with a single finger light. I have done this. It is not for the faint of heart and I will absolutely be doing it again.

Go. Seriously. Go.

Halfway to Halloween is May 15-16, and it is the perfect excuse to lean into the spooky season early, support an incredible local attraction, and maybe scream a little. Tickets and information are at fearfactoryslc.com.

Salt Lake City, we are lucky to have this one in our backyard. Do not take it for granted. Go let Fear Factory terrify you — and while you are at it, give yourself a little round of applause for celebrating Halloween the right way: early, enthusiastically, and without a single apology.

See you in the dark. 🎃
