Waxing Poetic…A Visit to Madame Tussaud’s in NYC

On our mini vacation last week in New York City, my boys and I had a blast. One of our very favorite stops was Madame Tussaud’s. We were invited* to come check out the famous attraction best known for immortalizing celebrities in wax during our visit.

Madame Tussaud’s is located in the center of the city, right off the Times Square area.  Very easy to get to and brightly lit, so you can’t miss it. Once inside, you are in for a big treat!  You are in the company of A-list celebrities every turn you make!  Wait, scratch that.  You are in the company of the identical likeness of the A-list celebrities, as they have been cast in wax, every little detail captured for you to see up close.  It would be strange to get up close and personal to real celebrities the way you can at Madame Tussaud’s, but it is really cool to do so while you are here!

It’s shocking to see the details and to stand next to the painstakingly perfect wax sculptures of celebrities we see in the movies. My boys and I had so much fun seeing how short or tall or how petite actors like Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Julia Roberts, and Johnny Depp were.  We loved kicking it with the Spice Girls and the Beatles.  Rocking out with Prince and Tina Turner, and seeing a wide array of actors, musicians and athletes. We even saw Eli Manning there, which you might have seen in a previous article, we got to meet and interview in person.  Seeing the details of his wax sculpture versus him in real life was incredible.  The wax sculptures are so right on!

What fun to check out our favorite movie director, Steven Spielberg and visit Indiana Jones, Men in Black, and Jurassic Park.  This girl of the 1980’s loved getting to see E.T. on a bike, which just arrived this month at its new location at Madame Tussaud’s in New York City!

While we all loved the celebrities, I have to tell you, in the eyes of my boys, they couldn’t compare with the Marvel superheroes we encountered during our visit! We were thrilled to find an entire section devoted to Marvel: Spider-Man, the Hulk, Thor, and Iron Man to name a few.  I have the biggest Spider-Man and Iron Man fans and they were over the moon finding this at Madame Tussaud’s!

They couldn’t wait to check out the 4D Marvel movie at Stark Industries during our visit.  We threw on some 3D specs and went into the theatre to embark on an animated adventure.  My kids were so excited to be there and couldn’t stop talking about the show after we left.  It was a definite highlight of our visit! Marvel fans, you have to check out this New York City attraction for the superheroes alone!

We had so much fun on our visit, I can’t wait to go back and see the museum with the rest of my family.  There was something for everyone, both young and old, at Madame Tussaud’s. This is an awesome day trip idea if you live in New York/ New Jersey area or if you are planning a trip to New York City, a definite attraction to add to your must-see list!  You can learn more bout Madame Tussaud’s by visiting them online.

*we were invited to visit the museum to facilitate a review, all opinions are my own.
