We’ve been to Madame Tussauds in New York City many times, it’s a family favorite! It’s always fun to see celebrities at every turn, don’t you think? Well this weekend, we were invited*to come back to Madame Tussauds to do something a little different. We were there to check out the newly added exhibition, Ghostbusters Dimensions, a Hyper-Reality Experience. Well, we love Ghostbusters and we love Madame Tussaud’s so naturally, we couldn’t wait to check it out!
Having just seen Ghostbusters again this week in the movie theaters (it’s such a fun movie!) it was fresh in our minds. It was awesome to see it all laid out in front of us, so realistically. That, in and of itself, was a fun attraction at Madame Tussaud’s, but they upped the ante and created a completely unique experience (courtesy of the VOID) that you HAVE to try.
Not knowing what the new Ghostbusters Dimensions would be, I had an inkling it might be like laser tag and we might have the opportunity to shoot some ghosts, maybe like an amusement park ride. Well, in a very, very small way, I was right. We did get to shoot some ghosts. But this was not laser tag! You go into a room where you are fitted with proton packs and helmets with special goggles. They send you on your way into the Aldridge building, known to be a haunted place, as there has been some paranormal activity. It’s your job to shoot some ghosts and clear the place of nuisances. But when the goggles cover your eyes, you are literally transformed before your eyes into Ghostbusters. You are virtual characters, like you have jumped into a video game. My team was not who I had walked in with, they were all transformed into actual Ghostbusters, equipped with proton packs, jump suits and had transfigured into completely different characters. However, I could feel they were still my companions and I could hear their voices. The room I was in was completely changed and I was walking in a virtual world, shooting virtual ghosts, with my own physical body. It was wild! Never have I ever had an experience like that! We traveled throughout a building capturing ghosts wherever we could–we were hanging on the ledge of a building, having ghosts jump through us and even fighting the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man. It was a blast!
The Ghostbusters Dimensions Experience is an add on package to Madame Tussaud’s, but one that everyone should try. I can’t wait to go back again! Ten minutes of virtual reality was so much fun, I would do it again and again. This exhibition is so well done, it is a really great addition to the facility. Take your kids to experience Ghostbusters Dimensions Experience to find out what it is like to be Ghostbusters, it is so much fun!
