This past weekend we were invited to visit Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Odditorium Times Square in New York City. As the name indicated, it’s located near the heart of Times Square, making Ripley’s very easy to get to and it’s open until the early hours of the morning. My kids were very excited to see what this museum had in store for us. We knew we were going to have a blast as soon as we walked in the doorway.
Every corner held new and unusual items to explore. Two headed animals, shrunken heads, torture chambers, and other peculiar items can be found in this nontraditional museum. Unlike a regular museum, your kids will want to take their time reading over the items and seeing the weird information that surrounds them. We typically fly through museums, but my kids really couldn’t get enough of this place! Awesome displays are found at every turn of the museum and you and your children will be enthralled.
We loved the Ripley’s Impossible LaseRace, which reminded my kids of Mission: Impossible. Here they were timed as they tried to make their way across a dark room of lasers and then back again without breaking the laser. They had a fantastic time doing it.
If you watched Sesame Street as a kid growing up in the 1980s, you will surely appreciate this awesome area in the museum where you could go into a dark room with music. On the wall in front of you is a massive screen that depicts your body movements and cascades them across the screen. We spent a while in this part dancing and laughing, it was so much fun!
We also loved the Black Hole, which challenged us to cross over a bridge as lights spun around us. We couldn’t help but feel like we were spinning out of control–absolutely awesome! It was a crazy sensation!
This was an awesome attraction loaded with fascinating items that had us amazed. In addition to seeing things that had us totally in awe, we learned a lot of really interesting information we couldn’t have had the opportunity to learn otherwise. We had a blast at Ripley’s and would definitely recommend it to you! For more information, visit them online or call 212.398.3133.
